The Mayflower Personnel Committee is very excited that Kent Dobson has accepted the position of Interim Associate Minister at Mayflower Congregational Church! We believe that his spiritual vitality and past leadership experiences will add much to Mayflower’s pastoral leadership team and to the spiritual growth within the congregation. Please join us in welcoming Kent and his family to Mayflower!

Kent is familiar to us at Mayflower as he has preached here during the last few summers. He is an ordained pastor who previously served as the teaching pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church and a religion teacher at Grand Rapids Christian High School. He is the author of Bitten by a Camel and hosts a podcast titled “Hints and Guesses”. Kent has committed his life to pursuing and helping others to live more rooted in their deeper, true self and to serve the world with the gift that they are. He is a guide at Animas Valley Institute, in addition to offering retreats, intensives, programs, teachings and podcasts. He lives in Ada with his wife and three children. Several of you have asked why he is being hired as an “interim” minister. According to our bylaws, “All ministers, other than the Senior Minister, shall be called by the same procedure as the Senior Minister in consultation with the Senior Minister.” This procedure is as follows, “…a meeting of the Active Adult Members shall be called by the Council for the purpose of electing a Pastoral Search Committee to find, present, and recommend to the Active Adult Members the calling of a new [Associate] Minister.” With the understanding that this process takes time and due diligence, yet our need for an Associate Minister is immediate, the decision was made to hire an interim pastor to fill this role.

It is understood that the Interim Associate Minister can be considered a candidate for the called Associate Minister position.
