CONFIRMATION - CLASS OF 2022
Confirmation students met for 4 weeks to discuss Faith as a Journey; God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit: How do they relate to one another? The Bible: Who wrote it? Why is it important? What does it tell us? Church as Community: What do you hope to do as part of our church congregation? Because of my faith, I hope I will…
Confirmands were charged with writing their own personal Statement of Faith to complete the confirmation process and become recognized members of Mayflower Congregational Church.
Affirmation of Mayflower Covenant: I acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and covenant with this church to love the Lord my God with all my heart, and with all my soul, with all my strength, and with all my mind, and to love my neighbor as myself.
The Confirmands’ Statements of Faith:
I believe in God. I believe that God is always watching over and protecting us. In the beginning, God created the heavens, earth and all of us. God made all of us like himself, and when he looks at us, he sees God’s self. I believe that God teaches us lessons through our actions.
I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. I believe that Jesus Christ is God with skin on. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. His resurrection shows us that there is evil in the world, but God’s love for us is stronger than that. I believe that Jesus Christ teaches us how to love each other and how we can better ourselves as people.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe that the Holy Spirit is within us. I believe that the Holy Spirit fills us with hope, joy and peace. I believe that we are God’s temple and that his spirit dwells in us.
I believe that the Bible is the word of God. I believe that the Bible teaches us stories that show God’s love, teachings, and lessons to us.
I believe that the Church is a community. We all gather at church to feel God’s presence, worship and pray. As a Church community, we are there to pray for each other through times of hardship, and times of joy. I believe that this is a valuable thing because it is comforting to know that there is a community of people who will always be there for you when you need it, no matter who you may be.
I believe that my faith will continue to grow and develop as I learn more about God and what being a Christian really means. I believe that my faith helps me through hard times. During these hard times or periods of questioning, I pray. I have learned that through prayer, I can feel some clarity in whatever I was struggling with. But, I also believe that it is important to pray in times of gratitude, to thank God for all of the gifts he has given us.
My hope is that as part of this church, I will grow closer to God. I also hope that I will be able to engage in outreach and mission trips. I think that as a believer in God, it is important to help people in need.
Faith is like a safety net, always there to catch you
Faith is with you in times of celebration and joy
But more importantly, faith is with you in times of hardship and grief
No matter how it may feel at times, faith has burrowed into your heart and will stay there for eternity
This is what I believe about faith
God is a protector, always looking out for us even when we’re not
God is fair, for they don’t judge how you worship
God accepts all, for it is said that we are made in their image
God has made sure we always have a piece of them with us, which is why there is the Holy Spirit
This is what I believe about God
The Holy Spirit follows us throughout our lives
The Holy Spirit guides us to reflect the characteristics of itself
The Holy Spirit was given to us by God, so would always feel the presence of God even after Jesus died
This is what I believe about The Holy Spirit
Jesus was sent to Earth to show us who God was
Jesus was sent to Earth to show us who God is and what God is capable of
Jesus is the son of God and was crucified to wash us clean
This is what I believe about the Son of God
I believe God had made the world we live in purely out of the goodness of his heart. God has made sacrifices as he sent his one and only son, Jesus, down to Earth to spread the word of Christianity. Jesus was later killed by the evil of others, but spread the word as he was supposed to, taking blame for all of our sins on his way.
I trust that God follows me daily and ensures I’m on the right path. I see this as him giving me a place in Heaven and me following Jesus, God with skin on, to get there.
I go to church in hopes to enlighten others with my kindness and prayers, I believe when they no longer need the prayers they will pass it onto the next person in need. I hope this creates a strong community between all people and one that grows the strength of Mayflower as a whole.
I believe that my faith and beliefs will strengthen me as a person the more I live. My beliefs will change for the better and I trust God will help me on the journey. Because of my faith, I will be a better person for the day I meet God.
I believe that reading the bible is a good way to communicate with God as well as learn and create new beliefs. I believe it is so simple yet strong that anyone and everyone should have time to read some of it daily.
I believe that The Holy Spirit will always be there to shine down on me no matter the condition. Everyday it will make its presence known by staying with me from one morning to the next. The Holy Spirit’s presence alone is strong enough to fulfill the Earth.
I believe that Jesus got crucified and then resurrected. I see this as a sign that everyone is given options to follow Jesus into Heaven when the time is right. I trust that when my time is right I will rise up into Heaven and relive all of my memories with everyone there.
During my years at Mayflower, and especially during confirmation classes, I have learned many things. I have learned and believe that God is everywhere, in everything and in everyone. I believe that God protects us and takes care of us through both the good times and the bad. I think He leads me in good directions and teaches me lessons along the way. I fully believe that God cares for me at all times and I know that God loves me and loves each one of us equally.
Jesus gave up his life for us because He loves us so much. He went through so much pain and suffering so that our sins would be forgiven. Jesus is an example of pure love and selflessness. He made our life so much better and I am so thankful. I want to always try and follow in his footsteps.
I feel the Bible is a true resource into learning about the life of God, Jesus and His followers. I believe that the Bible does not leave us astray. I believe what is written in the Bible is true and when I read from the Bible it helps me feel closer to God.
The church to me is a happy community where people come together to practice a faith we all believe in. Outside of church people are busy with their different groups, jobs and activities, but at church, because of our common faith, we are all there for the same reason. Mayflower is a comfortable place for me and I feel good coming here. I’ve learned important lessons that I will always remember. Through youth group, Sunday school, the mission trip, IHN, choir and a couple musicals Mayflower has provided me with special memories.
Because of my faith I want to become a better person each and every day. I’m glad to know that God is with me on my journey in life. By using Jesus as an example, I hope to be a great son, brother, cousin, neighbor, student, teammate and friend.
I understand that to be part of a community of fellow believers is very special. As a member of this congregation I hope to continue to be involved in church and to learn more about God along the way. I want to become a member because I want to continue to keep God in my life. I want to always remain close to God and to continue practicing my faith as I grow.
I believe that God is a representative figure of goodness in the world. And while I am a present being on this earth, I need to spread goodness and God’s message to all who are on this earth with me. I want to take with me that same goodness to the next stage of my life. When I think of this belief, I think of a particular passage in the Bible. I learned this passage many years ago in Sunday school with Mrs. Orban. It has stayed with me for a long time. The verse is Psalm 26, verse 6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.” This passage shows that when you trust in God and do what he says, you shall always be followed by his goodness and his mercy your whole life long.
Another example of what Faith is to me is my belief that God’s generosity and goodness, as well the goodness that others and I spread, can make a change in this world for the better. When I think of this, I think of Galatians 5, verses 22-23, “By contrast, the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.” I think that this passage shows that The Spirit (God) is so many things, while at the same time giving us just as many.
When I think of all the uncertainty in the world around us, I think of Chronicles 2 ,verse 3, “When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bow down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord saying “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
I know that all of us here have a constant throughout it all. The constant that we all share is God and the goodness that God has given to us and the goodness that he will continue to spread to all.
I believe that Jesus is God in his human form and that he was sent down to spread the message of God and his goodness. I believe that Jesus is the embodiment of God’s message and his mission was to spread God’s messsage and God’s goodness to all.
I believe that being a member of this Church is to spread God’s goodness to everyone in this Church community, and to explore the goodness God gives and God’s message. I believe that being a member allows me to connect with the other members who believe in God as well, and to work together to make this world a better place.
I believe that God has always been there, every day watching over everyone.
I believe that God is the center of everything.

I believe that the church is always a place I can go back to when I feel the need to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.
I believe the church is a welcoming place where everyone is welcome to praise the Lord.
I believe that the church is a reminder of all the good things God has done for us and all the good things that happen to us every day that sometimes we forget to see.
I believe my faith is a journey that I will follow throughout my life.
I believe my faith will help guide me through the dark times and remind me of all the good things too.
I believe my faith will be an essential part of my life.
I believe the Bible is a gift from God that we can use to learn God’s story.
I believe the Bible will help teach me about God and the creation of everything.
I believe that I can always go to the Bible when I feel like I need answers to my questions.

I believe in the Holy Spirit to guide me on my journey of faith.
My hope is that as part of this church, I will help make a difference in people’s lives and represent our church in a positive way. My hope is that I can make the church a better place in any way possible way.
I believe that God will look over me and guide me as I become confirmed at Mayflower.
I believe that God will guide me to move forward and make a difference throughout my life and my journey of faith.
I believe to trust God in the decisions God makes for me.
I believe God will make me the best version of myself through God’s love.
I believe God will continue to be there for my journey of faith and that God will continue to share
I believe in God. I believe that God is always present in our lives. To me, God is many things. God is hope, love, happiness, and so much more. I feel these things most when I am with family or friends, usually during times oDuring these times he is like a safety net to fall back on. His presence comforts and supports me.
I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that Jesus is the embodiment of God in human form. He was a leader, and a teacher. He taught us to follow God and to love all others as thyself. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice, he died on the cross for us. However, Jesus was resurrected and brought up to heaven to show us that love is more powerful than anger and hatred.
I also believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe the Holy Spirit is the part of God that is all around us. It is everywhere and in everything. I believe that the Holy Spirit is a guide that leads us on God’s path and on faith’s journey.
I believe that faith is a journey. I was baptized in a Catholic Church. Also, I received my first communion in the Catholic Church. However, faith is always growing and changing. It is always present through both good and bad times. Right now, I am just beginning this journey. And if I’m being honest, it was hard to start writing this because this topic is so vast and sometimes I feel a little lost. However, I do know that I can always look to The Bible, or to God for help.
I believe that church is a community. It is a place where we connect with each other, and with God. Church is a place of healing, of learning, and of bonding. Mayflower is my church family. I hope to continue growing my faith and learning about God and Jesus Christ through being a member of this congregation.
